2021: July

2022: snapshots from the year

July

July - Rehearsals

This month was filled with rehearsals, both online and face to face, for lighting designs I was doing across the UK.

First up, Newcastle’s brilliantly theatre company and drag house, Bonnie and the Bonnettes. I was lighting their reworking of their breakthrough show, Drag Me To Love, which would tour around England in Paines Plough’s Roundabout venue.  Becky, Hattie and Cameron were rehearsing in the Live Theatre in Newcastle, and I joined them over zoom and then in person.  It was lovely to be on the Quayside again, and just heavenly to be in a room with these three brilliant souls.  The process was so loving and respectful, and this extended to accommodation that I could cook in, and real care taken about Covid safety.

At the same time, I was also doing the online rehearsals for the same RashDash show that I lit in April: Look at Me, Don’t Look At Me.  The April version had been for a 360deg recorded version of the show that could be watched online, whereas this new version was for a live show that would be performed face-to-face at Paines Plough’s Roundabout when it got to London. The show was also touring in end on to Manchester and north Wales.

And finally, also in July, there were face-to-face rehearsals for National Theatre of Scotland’s show, The Enemy, which was adapted by my friend Kieran Hurley.  Aside from Kieran, it was almost an entirely new team for me.  We would be back in rehearsals in September, and would open the show at the beginning of October.
